National and International Engagement TWG
The National and International Engagement Thematic Working Group will be the link between national contributions to and implementation of relevant international multilateral agreements and conventions. In short, the TWG will ensure that there is broad public awareness of and robust participation in the implementation of and national monitoring and reporting to the various conventions that Kenya is party to, e.g. the Convention on Biodiversity and its Aichi Targets. This TWG will be guided by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
Key Activities of this TWG will include;
- Active involvement in the development and implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), particularly the elaboration and monitoring ofagriculture-related national targets
- Organize public forums and generate ideas and recommendations to form Kenya’s position to the CBD CoP (held every two years) and other relevant conventions
- Prepare and operationalise an annual calendar of events and activities linked to key activities and deliverables of the CBD and other conventions and agreements
- In liaison with other TWGs, ensure mainstreaming of the NBSAP and related strategies into national and county policies, strategies and county integrated development plans (CIDPs)
- Liaise with the Principles, Practices and Knowledge Management TWG to document and share with the CBD national Focal Points/Ministries good practices and projects worth upscaling as part of MRV for the NBSAP/CBD
Produce a 2-4-pager report (by end of August 2020) with challenges and recommendations to form Kenya’s position to the CBD CoP (held every two years) and other relevant conventions.
